Designed by Jose Gancedo, Canyamel is an 18 hole, par 73 course and was opened in 1988. Situated in the north east of Mallorca about 1 hour’s drive from Palma, Canyamel is set in a rural location. The coast is only 1 km away.
Working with the natural landscape Canyamel’s front nine holes blend beautifully in to the natural features of the land. You feel like you are walking through traditional Mallorcan countryside and the old stone hut in the middle of the 9th fairway is a perfect example of this. It can be said that the first nine holes offer some challenges, but an enjoyable experience. The views from the 5th hole offer spectacular views over the sea, with the island of Menorca in the distance.
Canyamel’s back 9 holes are more straightforward. Set in a flatter landscape, they still give the golfer some careful decisions to make. As with the front 9 holes, natural features also create additional challenges, such as typical dry stone walls bordering some fairways.
The Canyamel clubhouse is impressive and beautifully designed, it sits on an elevated position overlooking the 18th green. The interior is stylish and well appointed. Reception is situated in the well stocked Pro shop and has a great selection of clothing and equipment. To the rear of the clubhouse is a very good elevated driving range.
The bar and restaurant adjoin large terraces overlooking the course. Offering a quality menu and wide range of beverages, you can enjoy a relaxing drink or meal while watching other golfers cope with the unusual 18th green. This quirky par 3 hole with triple levels, provides a great opportunity to finish with a hole in one!
Canyamel’s Golf club logo is a tortoise. There is a colony of these slow moving but attractive little creatures in residence on the course. When not too hot and specially in the early morning, it is not unusual to find a tortoise, or a small group of them making their way across the fairways.
Do I Need a Buggy?
Canyamel is a gently undulating course that is easily walkable, although a buggy always adds to the experience. Buggies are allowed on the fairways, weather permitting.
