Situated in the exclusive Son Vida estate below the hills that create a dramatic backdrop for the island’s capital of Palma. The course is only a short taxi ride from the city centre. As part of the ‘Arabella’ resort the championship Son Muntaner course is adjacent to Son Vida and Son Quint, it’s sister courses. There are also two luxury 5 star hotels within the estate. The iconic Castillo Son Vida Hotel is arguably one of the best in Mallorca. Arabella Sheraton Hotel is the other 5 star property, located beside the 18th green of the Son Vida course.
Son Muntaner golf course was opened in May 2000. Designed by Kurt Rossknecht, who previously renovated the Son Vida course. Rossknecht returned to design a tougher and longer championship course to complement it’s sister course. In 2016 the course was closed to allow a complete re-seeding of the fairways with Bermuda Celebration grass. This grass has a blue / green colour and whilst being picturesque, it is also much better suited to the hot Mallorcan summers.
Son Muntaner is a player’s course. From the first tee you are confronted by challenging approach shots over water to bunker protected greens. A long lake borders the length of the 2nd and 3rd holes and will gather in any wayward shots.
Playing Son Muntaner is a must when putting together a golf itinerary in Mallorca. Challenges include a necessity to shape the ball off the tee, so as to give an ideal position for the second shot. Large greens offer the opportunity for different pin placements, thus giving the playing experience a different feel each time you play there.
The clubhouse at Son Muntaner is spectacular, with large and extensive terraces giving panoramic views over the course. A fantastic location to enjoy a drink or a meal after your round. The restaurant offers a quality menu and also caters for events.
Do I Need a Buggy?
Son Muntaner is a long relatively flat course, which is walkable if fit. However, as you are playing one of the best courses, a buggy will benfit the experience. Buggies are allowed on the fairways, weather permitting.
